Ferdenrothorn, Switzerland
On the eastern flank of the Ferdenrothorn (3180 m), a spectacular triple fold stands out. It forms the foremost front of a gigantic stack, made of layers of dark marine sediments that was pushed northward during the collision of Africa and Europe. There are about 400 vertical metres between its lowest transverse limb and the summit. (aerial view)
